Experiencing National Young Leaders Conference For The First Time

One of the of the defining first-time experiences of my life was attending the National Young Leaders Conference in Washington D.C. during the summer of 2006. It was a life-changing experience. Not only was it my first time going somewhere by myself, it was also the first time I actually got to be myself. I am a shy, timid individual, and it is difficult for me to open up to people. But when I was surrounded by hundreds of intelligent, remarkable teenagers from all over the country, I began to open up. My trip To Washington D.C. was the first time I felt comfortable in my own skin.

No Turning Back

The National Young Leaders conference helped me grow so much as an individual. We performed mock congress simulations, we heard from members of the House of Representatives and the Senate, and we also spoke to members of the press. I developed a great deal of appreciation for the United States government while participating in these events. America is a “melting pot” and this was evident by all of the different types of people there stating their opinions. All individuals should listen to others thoughts and take them into consideration.

I finally figured out what it meant to be a good leader. Returning home from my trip to the Nation’s capital marked a new beginning. I’ve always wanted to be a great leader but I was always too afraid. However now I know I can accomplish anything I set my mind to. I’m not the most qualified individual nor am I the most intelligent, but I have drive. I know that I can make it happen. Intelligence is a terrific asset but is nothing without, ambition, hard work, and virtue.

Why do you want to come to Upenn?

The environment of the University of Pennsylvania is idyllic. It’s right in the middle of one of the nations most remarkable cities. Learning should never end. Progression is key, in terms of creating an excellent future for our country. No learning restraints exist. Most notably, the Joint-degree program allows the student to have to majors, making them all the more prepared to enter the world as a young adult.

At this point in time, Business Administration and finance are my interests. My interests cover a vast terrain, but Business Administration has always been a peak. it’s a career field that isn’t limiting. The major I choose has to have its options. Business Administration is also a practical choice. Even if I change my major, I would have still learned valuable skills. What career doesn’t involve some aspect of the business? Business and economics is this nation’s backbone, and I want to be a part of that. With an MBA From the Wharton School, I could accomplish a variety of things that include establishing a fulfilling, profitable career, along with creating economic growth. Starting my own business is the ultimate goal. As of right now, my main interests are real estate and finance.
