5. Don’t use informal words
Having a conversation with a colleague is different from producing an academic essay. Often, how we speak affects our writing. It is common for students to include familiar and informal words in their writing. Stay clear of them.
Use of words like “cool.” It has a broad range of meaning. For your essay to be interesting, you need to use precise and words with clear meaning. Your supervisor doesn’t have to grapple with the sense of every word that you use.
6. Find time to edit your article
Yes, you may have a looming submission deadline, but you need to go back to the final draft and remove any errors or unnecessary words. You should always put your readers first, even, before yourself. Will they be able to get the message you are trying to pass across?

I am also guilty of using passive voice in my writing. It just happens. Most readers prefer the use of active voice, Subject, Verb, then, Object (SVO). Though, it may not be possible always to use the active voice, use as few passive sentences as possible.
